The AMAI Project

AMAI

Additive Manufacturing & Artificial Intelligence

Project description

AMAI’s goal is to bring innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions in Additive Manufacturing (AM) for in-line metrology to reconstruct the geometry of the part while it is being printed and quickly detect geometrical distortions. This will allow detecting geometrical errors while the part is being produced, reducing time and costs devoted to post-process inspections and measurements and reducting scraps and wastes.

AMAI aims to implement and put on the market two software products, for Electron Beam and Laser Powder Bed Fusion (EBM and LPBF), integrating advanced in-situ monitoring algorithms developed by Politecnico di Milano and add-on modules developed by the Chambers University of technology. One tool will be validated by GE Avio Aero supported by GE Additive in the Cameri plant, one of the largest aerospace AM production plants worldwide. The second tool will be validated on industrial LPBF machines in Beamit, one of largest AM service bureaus in Europe.

The project has started in 2021, duration 1 year.
